WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - March 15, 2011) - King & Spalding announced today that Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., the former Maryland governor (2002-2006) and U.S. congressman (1994-2002), is joining its Washington, D.C., office. Gov. Ehrlich will serve as a senior counsel in the firm's government advocacy and public policy practice, which advises clients on a broad array of policy matters and their interactions with the federal government.

Gov. Ehrlich is joining King & Spalding from Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, where he was a founder of that firm's Baltimore office.

Before becoming Maryland's first Republican governor in more than 36 years, Ehrlich represented Maryland's Second District in the U.S. House of Representatives. In addition to serving as a House deputy whip for six years, he was a member of numerous committees, including the Budget, Energy and Commerce, Government Reform and Oversight, and Banking and Financial Services Committees. He also served as co-chair of the Congressional Biotechnology Caucus. Prior to being elected to Congress, Ehrlich was a delegate to the Maryland General Assembly.

Gov. Ehrlich received his law degree from Wake Forest School of Law and practiced law in Baltimore before entering the political arena. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University.
