Seattle's Leading Web Services Provider Plugs Into Power of Rubicon Professional Services for Energy Efficient Data Center

Energy, Consulting, Engineering and Construction Management Leader Drives Cost, Power-Efficiencies at Key Seattle Project in Just Four Months

HERNDON, VA--(Marketwire - March 17, 2011) - Rubicon Professional Services, a leading national provider of full-service energy management, consulting, engineering, and construction management for mission-critical facilities, today introduced Adhost Internet as its newest customer. As one of the Seattle region's leading providers of server colocation, dedicated servers and cloud hosting, Adhost Internet tapped Rubicon for construction of the company's newly expanded, energy efficient data center facility.

Adhost leveraged Rubicon's design/build solutions to expand its Seattle data center in a short four month timeframe. The completion of the new data center allows Adhost to expand its services beyond its current 7,000 customers offering capacity for potential revenue as part of its history of sustained growth. More importantly, the "green" energy efficient data center translates into cost savings to Adhost and its customers.

Since 2006, Rubicon Professional Services has provided customers such as Adhost, with innovative solutions for mission critical facility design and construction. Unlike services provided by traditional general contractors, Rubicon's professional engineers deliver unique alternatives for building or upgrading core facilities -- from design/build and construction management to energy services and equipment integration.

"At Adhost, our data center is the lifeblood of our business," said Will Riffle, CEO, Adhost Internet. "Our customers need to feel confident that their data is being stored safely which is why we take significant effort to provide secure, redundant internet connections with appropriate levels of power and cooling throughout our infrastructure."

Adhost counts a range of market-leaders amongst its 7,000 customers, including Microsoft, WatchGuard, Zumiez, and Tully's Coffee. These companies depend on Adhost and its 15 years of experience to ensure business-critical Web sites are handled in a unified, safe and consistent manner through such services as: server colocation, cloud hosting, dedicated servers, server management, hosting, and e-commerce.

"Rubicon's approach to project management and cost control, along with its experience and track-record in data center designs, made them the obvious choice for the project," states Riffle.

The new Adhost data center is housed in Seattle's Fisher Plaza, a major telecommunications hub in the Northwest. Built adjacent to Adhost's existing data center, the construction had to be kept separate from the existing facility to prevent any interruptions to daily mission critical operations. A series of complex systems had to interoperate, while the new section design had to maintain a consistency, making it a seamless part of the existing data center by the end of the project.

"Because the expanded space is adjacent to one of our live data centers, the selected construction management firm had to commit to a design that would not disrupt or impede our ongoing operations as this could have immediately impacted our services," explains Riffle. "Rubicon's dedicated, professional team successfully pulled off this tricky implementation with no impact to live operations -- and in just under four months. They took an intricate, difficult, technical challenge and answered the bell perfectly."

Additionally, the new construction had to adhere to complex local energy and building codes. The building's exterior façade could not be drastically altered, while adhering to Seattle's highly stringent energy codes. This posed challenges when the design included a space with an alternative for free cooling using outside air instead of an air conditioning system. This called for replacing some of the building's windows with air vents.

"One of the unique aspects of the Adhost project was the full involvement of the Adhost CEO who expedited the decision making process, and hence the 'on-time' completion of the project," states Eric Holzworth, Rubicon Professional Services, COO.

"Rubicon's consummate professionals have a firm grasp of this business and truly understand the owner's perspective and the expense margin," concludes Riffle. "Rubicon offered an outstanding information flow throughout the project. We also appreciated their total approach to on-site security procedures."
