Exalt Introduces Industry's Fastest, Most Spectrally Efficient 5 GHz Microwave Backhaul Systems

New ExploreAir and ExtremeAir Zero-Footprint Systems Deliver up to 470 and 940 Mbps Layer 2 Ethernet Throughput, Respectively

CAMPBELL, CA--(Marketwire - March 24, 2011) - Exalt Communications today announced its ExploreAir® and ExtremeAir® 5 GHz microwave backhaul systems, the highest-capacity 5 GHz point-to-point systems on the market. These zero-footprint systems, part of the Exalt Air Series, are designed for operators, wireless Internet service providers, and enterprises that need quick-to-deploy, higher capacity backhaul to support rising data traffic on their broadband access and WLAN networks.

The ExploreAir 5 GHz zero-footprint microwave backhaul system operates in the license-exempt 5.3, 5.4, and 5.8 GHz bands. It provides up to 470 Mbps aggregate Layer 2 throughput over a Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) interface, with options for multiple GbE interfaces and up to 4xT1. The ExtremeAir 5 GHz system is a dual-carrier system with the same tri-band 5 GHz capabilities and delivers up to 940 Mbps of Ethernet throughput. Both systems offer fully user-configurable adaptive modulation (ACM) with integrated QoS, asymmetrical transmission, and full high resolution tuning across the entire band.

As compared to OFDM- or Wi-Fi®-based systems, the ExploreAir and ExtremeAir systems deliver guaranteed throughput, much higher peak throughput, and greater spectral efficiency than any single-channel point-to-point system on the market.

"The 5 GHz point-to-point radio has long been a staple of enterprise campus and WISP network architecture," said Mark Davis, Sr. Director of Product Marketing, Exalt Communications. "With these new ExploreAir and ExtremeAir 5 GHz systems, Exalt is delivering capacities and advanced features previously associated only with licensed band systems while maintaining the ease and speed-of-deployment associated with the 5 GHz band."

The Exalt Microwave Backhaul Product Portfolio
All Exalt microwave backhaul systems -- indoor, outdoor and split-mount -- offer guaranteed link availability, guaranteed throughput and low, constant latency. Systems are available in world bands from 2 to 43 GHz and in capacities from 25 Mbps to 1000 Mbps per channel, providing a range of options to fit countless network applications. Designed to enable a smooth transition to IP, they offer native support for both TDM and Ethernet, and are fully software configurable and upgradeable. For easy and secure management using third-party network management systems, Exalt systems support SNMP v1, v2c and v3. Data security is provided by available FIPS 197-compliant AES 128-bit and 256-bit encryption that adds zero latency to the transmission. To simplify installation and maintenance, all Exalt systems feature an embedded manual and most include a built-in spectrum analyzer.
