VALLEY CENTER, CA--(Marketwire - April 6, 2011) - National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) will host its annual conference for the animal health supplement industry, May 11-13, at Town and Country Resort and Convention Center in San Diego.
Attendance to the conference is required for NASC members who make up 90 percent of the animal health supplement industry. Workshops and training provide executives with the most current regulatory updates from leading experts and regulators in the field including: Tracey Forfa, executive director of the Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine, and Daniel McChesney, director of surveillance and compliance; David Dzanis, CEO of Regulatory Discretion Inc.; and Ben Jones, associate director of the Office of the Texas State Chemist. The conference will also feature business topics and trends.
"As our organization grows it's necessary for us to provide members with an executive forum that keeps them and our industry ahead of the curve from both a regulatory and business perspective," says Bill Bookout, president of NASC, the nonprofit industry trade association that works on behalf of concerned and committed providers of animal health supplements, supply chain partners and state, federal and international government officials to create a regulatory environment that is fair, reasonable, responsible and nationally consistent to protect and enhance the integrity of animal health products.
The conference will begin Wed., May 11 at 8 a.m., with a basic training session required for new members and recommended as a refresher course for current members. Bookout and Jones will give an overview of how to operate in the industry, quality systems training for animal food, feed and health products as well as proper product labeling and allowable claims.
The keynote presentation, sponsored by TSI Inc., begins at 5:30 p.m., with guest speaker and Sports Illustrated writer, Jim Gorant, author of The Lost Dogs. Gorant will reveal the true story behind what became of professional football player Michael Vick's pit bulls once seized by government officials following the raid of his dog fighting operation and how experts and officials united to save them.
The conference continues on Thurs., May 12, with workshops on identifying quality contract manufacturers and raw material suppliers, effective probiotic use in products and developments in Canada from the Veterinary Drugs Directorate. Kim Pearson, former FDA attorney, will give current updates on labeling and advertising guidelines and David Lummis, senior pet market analyst for market research publisher Packaged Facts, will discuss market trends and growth opportunities in the equine and companion animal markets.
NASC will honor deserving companies and individuals within the animal health supplement industry during an awards dinner sponsored by Pharmore Ingredients Inc. A special presentation by REINS Therapeutic Horsemanship Program will precede the ceremony.
Wrapping up the conference on Fri., May 13, is an update from the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine and Jones will outline the American Feed Control Officials new state and federal programs. Nutrition industry veteran and co-founder of Nutrition Business Journal, Tom Aarts will conclude the conference with his state-of-the-supplement industry address.
NASC members may register until May 2 for $150 per person. Non-NASC members may attend the keynote and Thursday and Friday workshops for $275 per person.
