10gen Partners With VMware to Distribute MongoDB

MongoDB to Be Included as Core Data Service for Cloud Foundry, VMware's New Open Platform as a Service (PaaS) Offering

REDWOOD SHORES, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 12, 2011) - Today 10gen announced that VMware will distribute MongoDB as a core database "service" for its newly launched Cloud Foundry™ open PaaS offering.

MongoDB is an open source database, combining scalability, performance and ease of use, with traditional relational database features such as dynamic queries and indexes. It has become the leading NoSQL database choice, with downloads exceeding 100,000 per month. Thousands of customers including Fortune 500 enterprises and leading Web 2.0 companies are developing innovative large-scale applications and performing real-time "Big Data" analytics with MongoDB.

Cloud Foundry, currently in beta release, represents a new generation of application platform, architected specifically for cloud computing environments and delivered as a service from enterprise datacenters and public cloud service providers. Cloud Foundry streamlines the development, delivery and operations of modern applications, significantly enhancing the ability of developers to deploy, run and scale their applications in cloud environments while embracing the widest choice of public and private clouds, industry-standard high productivity developer frameworks, languages and application infrastructure services. With its horizontally scalable architecture, MongoDB is revolutionizing development in the cloud and is ideally suited for the Cloud Foundry platform.

"The demand for MongoDB in the developer community is very strong, so as we designed the Cloud Foundry™, we felt MongoDB was a great candidate to include as part of our new PaaS offering," said Derek Collison, CTO and Chief Architect, Application Platform, VMware. "We're excited to work closely with 10gen to distribute MongoDB in Cloud Foundry."

"The cloud enables developers to focus on building applications, and dramatically reduces the upfront costs of deploying and scaling these new applications," said Roger Bodamer, EVP Products and Technology at 10gen. "MongoDB is perfectly matched to the scalability and agility that developers demand in the cloud."
