TRC Congratulates Groundwork Lawrence as Recipient of Brownfield Renewal Award

LOWELL, MA--(Marketwire - Apr 13, 2011) - TRC Companies, Inc. is proud to congratulate Groundwork Lawrence and the City of Lawrence for earning a 2010 Brownfield Renewal Award in the category of Social Impact for outstanding efforts to transform a contaminated former mill into a 5-acre waterfront park in Lawrence, Mass. This successful redevelopment project has also been awarded the 2011 National Community Development Association Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award. TRC served as the environmental consultant on the project, contributing to the clean up and redevelopment of the site. The award was presented by Brownfield Renewal Magazine in a ceremony held on April 4, 2011.

Manchester Street Park opened in September 2009 and was jointly developed by the nonprofit organization Groundwork Lawrence, and the City of Lawrence, with extensive input from residents in surrounding neighborhoods. The park, which was once contaminated by mercury, lead and other pollutants from a municipal trash incinerator, is now home to playgrounds, a pavilion, community gardens, open green spaces, and native trees.
