Narus and Government Security News Present Cyber Security Webinar

Session Introduces Techniques and Analytic Tools to Profile and Detect New Generation of Advanced Persistent Threats

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 14, 2011) -

WHAT:
Narus, Inc., the leading provider of dynamic network traffic intelligence and analytics software, will co-host a free Webinar with GSN: Government Security News next week. In "Dynamic Network Intelligence for Proactive Threat Management," Narus' Director of Federal Engineering, David Cavuto, CISSP and GSN Editor-in-Chief Jacob Goodwin will present new methods and tools to profile and detect today's most advanced and insidious cyber security threats.

Contemporary attackers mask the presence of their malicious code on networks, and advanced threats such as polymorphic worms, botnet agents and misbehaving applications can easily evade current network security devices by masquerading as "normal" traffic syntactically, while containing the semantics necessary for conducting criminal business.

Indeed, these threats are pervasive and insidious -- and proving to skirt traditional security software which relies on signature-based approaches. A combination of new techniques and analytic tools is required to adaptively profile and detect anomalous behavior over significant time scales. With this in place, security analysts will be able to accelerate the identification and mitigation of problems and reduce their own workload, essentially resulting in an overall stronger cyber security program.

At the end of the Webinar, attendees will understand how to:

  • Adaptively profile and detect non-signature threats by using metadata records

  • Deploy systems to detect advanced persistent threats such as polymorphic worms, persistent botnet agents and misbehaving applications by leveraging condensed information extracted from the network at Layer 3 through Layer 7, with none of the redundancy and cost inherent in raw packet capture

  • Build a baseline of behavior as well as find anomalies across a wide range of protocol metrics

About Narus
Narus provides dynamic network traffic intelligence and analytics software that analyzes information on IP traffic and flow data to map the digital DNA (or behavior) of the network in real time.

Through its patented analytics, Narus' carrier-class software detects patterns and anomalies that can predict and identify security issues, misuse of network resources, suspicious or criminal activity, and other events that can compromise the integrity of IP networks. The NarusInsight System is designed to be integrated into a customer's operational environment, strengthening existing security and monitoring systems, while providing total traffic visibility across the network.

NarusInsight protects and manages the largest IP networks around the world and has been deployed with commercial and government installations on five continents. Narus is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, and is headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., with regional offices around the world.
