NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Apr 15, 2011) - The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC) announces the launch of its first text-donation campaign as part of its efforts to raise awareness surrounding National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. The campaign allows cell phone users to donate $10 to The NYSPCC by texting NYSPCC to 50555. All proceeds will benefit The NYSPCC and help fund its counseling, legal and educational programs to prevent abuse and help more children and families heal.
"We are proud to be launching our first texting campaign to help raise awareness for child abuse and neglect during National Child Abuse Prevention Month," says NYSPCC's Executive Director, Mary L. Pulido, Ph.D. "Our hope is for this campaign to put a spotlight on a national problem that is 100% preventable."
In honor of National Child Abuse Prevention month, critically acclaimed writer and author, Tracy Ross, of the recently released memoir, "The Source of All Things" published by Simon & Schuster, has generously agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds to the NYSPCC programs.
The NYSPCC was founded in 1875 and is the world's first child protection agency with more than 135 years of trailblazing in child protection and abuse prevention services for New York City's most vulnerable children. Led by Executive Director, Mary L. Pulido, Ph.D., a nationally recognized expert in trauma recovery and social work, the NYSPCC is the foremost resource on child abuse and neglect with a team of highly qualified and trained specialists in the child welfare field. In 2006, Dr. Pulido was appointed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg to the New York City Child Fatality Review Team.
The NYSPCC is an independent and non-profit organization, providing care in the areas of mental health, legal, and educational services. It offers assistance with training and education in the child welfare arena such as sexual abuse prevention workshops at New York City public schools for children, parents, and staff. It provides training for mandated professionals and the public on how to recognize and report child abuse and neglect.
April was proclaimed National Child Abuse Prevention Month in 1983.
