BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - May 3, 2011) - Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) President and CEO Kenneth W. DeFontes, Jr. will be a featured speaker at KEMA's fourth annual Utility of the Future Leadership Forum, "Shaping the Future." DeFontes will be part of a CEO panel discussion on the emerging utility future -- what it means for utility operations, business models, and stakeholder relationships -- at the KEMA forum, June 6-8, 2011, at The Four Seasons, Denver, Colo.
DeFontes will share insights into staying ahead of the energy technology curve and learnings from the BGE Energy Delivery System of the Future (EDSF) Initiative. He will join the CEOs of Public Service Company of Colorado, AGL Resources, and AltaLink for the panel session, "The View from 30,000 Feet" on Tuesday, June 7.
"Emerging gas and electric technologies will have a significant potential impact on delivery infrastructure and utility operations now and into the future," said DeFontes. "Our Energy Delivery System of the Future Initiative sought to understand opportunities and challenges these technologies will present to BGE. Working with KEMA, we analyzed the potential impacts of game-changing technologies with short-term and immediately relevant impacts on our system, like electric vehicles, solar, and shale gas. We've also examined the short-, medium-, and long-term implications of strategically significant and cross-cutting enabling technologies, such as demand response; energy storage; advanced metering infrastructure; and advanced distribution automation, communications, and control. This analysis will allow BGE to develop and prioritize specific actions to prepare processes, systems, and workforce skills for the impacts new technology will bring to bear across our operations."
The 2011 Utility of the Future Leadership Forum features one and one-half days of discussion about industry game changers; new business models; and the changing roles of utilities, customers, and suppliers. Executive-level panel discussions will focus on CEOs' views of the future utility: the road to sustainability, gas as part of the smart grid paradigm, the integration of new and ever-changing technologies, and consumer and 'prosumer' engagement.
