Universal to Share Lessons Learned, Consultation on Aviation EU-ETS at EBACE2011

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - May 17, 2011) - Global Regulatory Services experts from Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc. (exhibit #7091) will be available at EBACE2011 to share lessons learned in year one of the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS) and advice on continued preparations for carbon trading in 2012.

"For many operators, the first reporting monitoring and reporting period for aviation EU-ETS was a complicated, frenzied process, that involved rushing to meet the various EU Member States' deadlines," said Adam Hartley, Supervisor, Regulatory Services, Universal®. "I will be available at EBACE to provide tips on how they can align their actions with the current requirements to make the process less burdensome going forward."

Regardless of what stage an operator is at in complying with EU-ETS requirements, Hartley said Universal can offer assistance and consultation.

"Although the 2010 reporting deadline has passed, there are still a large number of operators just learning about the regulation," said Hartley. "We can help them understand the program for those new to it or provide information on an Emissions Reporting Portal Service with access to an approved verifier."

Some of the questions Hartley said he is receiving most include:

  • What steps should operators be completing throughout the year to ensure a seamless process in 2012?
  • What are the unique requirements and deadlines of the various EU Member States?
  • How can operators successfully build supporting documentation throughout the year for an easier reporting and verification process?
  • What are EU Aviation Allowances Auctions?

Hartley will also give demonstrations of Universal's:

  • Emissions Reporting Portal service, which combines online reporting tools and access to an accredited, experienced EU-ETS third-party verifier.
  • EU-ETS Resource Center (www.EU-ETS.aero), which is packed with need-to-know information, tools, how-to videos, sample reporting plans and completed reports.
