Charles Eliasch Takes the Stage in "As I Like It"

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - May 23, 2011) - As the progeny of a long line of artists who includes famed director Sidney Gilliat, it is no surprise that Charles Eliasch has become a stage veteran with a veritable list of performances across the world including the U.K., New York, and Hong Kong -- all by the age of 19.

Educated at the prestigious Harrow School in Middlesex, the young Eliasch is now attending Mannes College The New School of Music to pursue opera in New York City. The counter-tenor turned baritone has received extensive training -- having studied singing, acting, and piano with renowned professionals such as David Bates, Titus Graham, David Jones, Valerie Miller, and Lois Winter.

Spending his summers away at the Italia Conti Academy and the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, Eliasch prepared for minor roles in DonJuan, The Wind in the Willows, and the Tempest -- eventually landing him his first major part as Ophelia in Hamlet. Eliasch went on to play Demetrius in A Midsummer's Night Dream, Mr. Spettigue in Charlie's Aunt, Maniac in Accidental Death of an Anarchist, and the Narrator in Stephen Berkoff's The Trial. His opera roles include Mephistopheles in Faust, Figaro in a Marriage of Figaro, Father in Hansel and Gretel, Dulcamara in L'Elixir de l'Amour, and Bertarido in Rodelinda.

This May 25th and 26th, Eliasch performs as Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni at Mannes College. Conversely, the classically trained thespian steps away from operas and Shakespeare in July to star as the Devotee in As I Like It, which was written by his mother, artist and fashion editor, Amanda Eliasch (www.amandaeliasch.com). The play is a witty, candid, yet deeply personal memoir that weaves in and out of truth to tease and mesmerize audiences.

Don Giovanni plays at Mannes College from May 25 to May 26 at 7:30pm. Mannes College The NewSchool of Music is located at 150 West 85th Street New York, NY 10024. Admission is free. As I Like It runs for two weeks at the Chelsea Theatre in London, from July 5 to July 14. The Chelsea Theatre is located at 7 World's End Place, London SW10 0DR, United Kingdom. Tickets available at www.chelseatheatre.org.uk.
