eDiscoveryJournal Hires Industry Veteran Jason Velasco as CEO

Velasco Brings 15+ Years of Legal and eDiscovery Expertise to Grow eDJ's Products and Services, Including the Journal's New Quarterly Industry Report

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - May 23, 2011) - eDiscoveryJournal (eDJ), a leading source of independent and unbiased perspectives on eDiscovery news, trends and best practices, announced today the hiring of Jason Velasco as its new CEO. Velasco, one of the founders of Renew Data Corp., brings more than 15 years of legal and eDiscovery expertise to eDJ and will lead the continued growth and expansion of the journal's products and services.

"When we started eDJ over a year and a half ago, our goal was to help corporate legal departments, law firms, service providers and vendors understand the eDiscovery technology landscape and how these technologies can maximize productivity and increase profits," said Barry Murphy, co-founder of eDJ. "Because of our laser focus, eDJ has grown by more than 60 percent. eDJ now has dozens of clients, and our website receives between 6,000 - 8,000 unique visitors per month. Jason's understanding of the entire legal process will be critical to realizing the potential of the eDJ brand."

The hiring of Velasco and the expansion of eDJ come at an opportune time. eDiscovery continues to be one of the major challenges for legal departments. Courts are enforcing eDiscovery rules, and compliance requirements with increasing rigor, often resulting in hefty sanctions. Corporations are monitoring litigation budgets more closely and investigating technologies to bring eDiscovery processes in-house, fueling fierce competition among law firms and traditional eDiscovery service providers.

"Jason brings to eDJ the right combination of executive expertise and experience essential to growing our well-established, independent analyst brand," said Greg Buckles, co-founder of eDJ. "Under his leadership, we will drive the rapid expansion of our research products, content and services to meet the current and future demands of the explosive eDiscovery market and our clients."

With more than 15 years in the eDiscovery market, Velasco has held high-level positions at several major companies, consulting with both corporations and law firms on best practices, procedures and protocols for managing eDiscovery matters. Most recently, he was a director in the Directed Advisory Services practice at KPMG. He has also held executive positions at Merrill Corporation and RenewData, supervising forensics and consulting teams, as well as closing multimillion dollar deals.

"I'm extremely excited to be leading this dynamic, growing organization. The knowledge and understanding Barry and Greg have on issues related to technology, eDiscovery strategy, litigation readiness and the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) are unmatched. They are truly pioneers in this field, and Barry was one of the first IT analysts to understand and cover this market," said Velasco. "As CEO of eDJ, I'm looking forward to expanding the portfolio of services and products specifically designed for the legal market."

In the first expansion phase, Velasco will be adding exclusive reports for law firms and corporate IT departments, as well as a new, quarterly "state-of-the-industry" research report that covers the latest rulings, technologies and trends impacting today's legal departments, along with actionable recommendations to address these challenges.
