Correctional Service of Canada: Inmates Escape from Minimum Security Riverbend Institution


PRINCE ALBERT, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - May 26, 2011) - At approximately 10:00 p.m. today, a count of inmates at Riverbend Institution revealed two inmates to be missing. An immediate search of the facility and grounds was conducted but failed to locate the inmate. Both RCMP and City Police were notified. The inmates were last seen during the institution's 8:00 p.m. count this evening.

The first missing inmate is Cory HOURD, 37 years old, serving a two year sentence for aggravated assault. His sentence commenced on February 24, 2011 and was due to expire on February 23, 2013. His statutory release date is June 25, 2012. He is 180 cm (5' 11'') tall and weighs 78 kg (172 lbs). He has a fair complexion, blue eyes and blond hair.

The second missing inmate is Christopher GIBSON, 31 years old, serving a three year sentence for a variety of offences including theft under (X2), fail to comply (x3), fail to appear, fail to attend court, possession of a firearm, buy counterfeit money, posses counterfeit money and conspire to commit an inditable offence. His sentence commenced on December 23, 2010 and was due to expire on December 22, 2013. His statutory release date is December 22, 2012. He is 188 cm (6' 2'') tall and weighs 108 kgs (239 lbs). He has a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the above offenders is asked to contact their local Police Agency.

Riverbend Institution is a minimum-security institution that accommodates 126 inmates. This is the first escape from this facility this fiscal year. (April 1 to March 31) Last year there were two escapes.

Minimum security offenders are those who are rated as low escape risks, low risk to the public in the event of an escape and display progress in dealing with identified problem areas through correctional plan participation.

The Correctional Service Canada will be conducting a complete investigation surrounding circumstances of this escape.
