MAPLE GROVE, MN--(Marketwire - May 26, 2011) - TopLine Federal Credit Union is honored to announce that Rachel Ayoub and Lauryn Heineman each won a $500 scholarship from the Minnesota Family Involvement Council (FIC). This year the FIC offered $11,000 in college scholarships to Minnesota credit union members.
More than 1,200 students applied for the scholarships from credit unions throughout the state. Applicants were selected based on school and community involvement, and an essay which explained what "living within your means" signifies and how credit unions can help achieve that status.
Rachel Ayoub lives in Champlin, and is attending Augsburg College as a graduate student seeking a master's degree in social work with a concentration in multicultural clinical practice. She is an active member of AmeriCorps, which enables her to earn money for college while serving her community and she also volunteers for outreach programs, such as the MN Youth Intervention Programs Association.
Lauryn Heineman lives in Brooklyn Park and is planning on attending the College of St. Benedict in the fall of 2011 for creative writing. She is currently an honor student at Osseo Senior High School, a member of the National Honor Society and is an accomplished cellist.
Harry Carter, President/CEO, said, "TopLine has been involved with the Minnesota Family Involvement Council scholarship program since 1997, and we are very pleased that two of our members were chosen as scholarship recipients this year.
