AlliedBarton Security Services, HR Plus, CA Technologies, Suffolk County Police, BOMA Long Island and ASIS International Long Island Present Free Workplace Violence Seminar in Long Island

LONG ISLAND, NY--(Marketwire - May 27, 2011) - AlliedBarton Security Services, the industry's premier provider of highly trained security personnel, and HR Plus, a leading provider of comprehensive solutions for employment and background screening, in partnership with CA Technologies, Inc., Suffolk County Police Department, BOMA Long Island and ASIS International Long Island, will host a free workplace violence prevention seminar from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at CA Technologies at One CA Plaza in Islandia, NY. Lawrence Loesch, former NYPD Deputy Chief and Vice President and General Manager for AlliedBarton will provide introductory remarks.

"No business is immune to the potential threat from workplace violence," said Mark White, Deputy Chief, Office of Homeland Security and Anti-Terrorism, Suffolk County Police Department. "Educating employees and managers to engage in proactive planning is a critical step in creating a safer work environment. Collaborative efforts like this seminar help facilitate the development of effective prevention, reporting and response strategies. Establishing a comprehensive workplace violence plan, along with ongoing training, are essential components in maximizing employee safety."

"The threat of violence in the workplace constantly evolves," said Steven M. Crimando, MA, BCETS, CHS-V, Managing Director, Extreme Behavioral Risk Management. "Plans, policies and procedures for preventing violence on the job must be revisited to address this type of changing threat. What violence in the workplace looks like today is very different than a decade ago and what it will look like a decade from now. Outdated violence prevention plans can be as risky as having no plan at all. In a time of tightening budgets and ongoing threats to security, businesses can leverage their security force by expanding frontline employees' ability to detect and deter violence within or against the organization. Any violence prevention expert will tell you that effective security requires a layered approach. Employees form that first and often most critical layer. With the right sort of awareness, tools and training, frontline employees can and should be the first line of defense against violence in the workplace."

Discussion and workshop topics include anticipating and managing behaviors; responding to and surviving active shooters; practical preparedness; recognizing and preventing workplace violence; policies and procedures; and community resources.

Speakers include: Steve Crimando, MA, BCETS, CHS-V, Managing Director of Extreme Behavioral Risk Management at XBRM; Deputy Chief Mark White, Suffolk County Police Department; and Lawrence Loesch, Vice President, General Manager, AlliedBarton.

Media interested in attending this event are encouraged to RSVP to the press contact in this release. There is no cost to attend this public service event.
