United Way of the Lower Mainland: Fashionista's Ball Fashion Sale Raises $70,000 to Help Children Throughout Metro Vancouver

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 30, 2011) - Stylish women across Canada donated designer and name brand clothing and accessories for a sale held May 29 at a one-day pop-up store in downtown Vancouver.

The Fashionista's Ball, organized and presented by a United Way circle of donors, Women United in Philanthropy, raised approximately $70,000. Proceeds will support children in communities throughout Metro Vancouver through United Way of the Lower Mainland's Success By 6 initiative.

Said Michael McKnight, President and CEO United Way of the Lower Mainland, "Congratulations to Women United in Philanthropy and the many volunteers who made possible an amazing fundraising event for United Way. One bag, one pair of shoes, one coat at a time, together, we're changing the future by helping children to be ready for school. That's a fashion trend worth celebrating.

"Thanks to everyone who lined up and shopped at yesterdays' inaugural Fashionista's Ball. Thanks to the many volunteers for spending a sunny Sunday inside. Thanks to the many women across Canada who donated over 3,000 items for the sale."

Said Pixie Riddle, Women United in Philanthropy member and event organizer, "It was an honor to be the organizer of the first Fashionista's Ball and I'm extremely happy with the money we raised for United Way."
