TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 15, 2011) - UNITE HERE Local 75 -
| WHAT: | Informational Picket Line at the Metropolitan Hotel, first of several rolling actions to be taken by the hotel workers' union, Unite Here Local 75. |
| WHO: | Workers at the Metropolitan Hotel. |
| WHERE: | Metropolitan Hotel, 108 Chestnut Street, Toronto. Similar events will also be held at other hotels in upcoming weeks. |
| WHEN: | Wednesday, June 15, 2011, 5-6pm. |
| WHY: | Unite Here Local 75 has been bargaining for almost a year and a half at the Metropolitan Hotel, a major downtown hotel in the heart of Chinatown and near City Hall. The Company still refuses to agree to the citywide standard set at the other major hotels in the GTA and is demanding serious take-aways, unlike the other major hotels that have already reached agreements. The primary issue is job security for hotel workers, a largely female and immigrant workforce. |
| On June 15, Metropolitan Hotel workers will stage the first of several rolling demonstrations that signal trouble brewing in the GTA hotels at a time when the city expects a number of major upcoming citywide events, including the Molson Indy, Pride, Caribana and the Toronto International Film Festival. | |
| Local 75 represents over 7000 hotel, hospitality and gaming workers in the Greater Toronto Area. |
