Cloud9 IDE, the First Commercial Development as a Service (DaaS) Platform, Raises $5.5M From Accel Partners and Atlassian Software

Accel Partners and Atlassian Software Fund 'A Round' Investment in First Commercial Development as a Service (DaaS)

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 21, 2011) - Cloud9 IDE, Inc. (www.cloud9IDE.com), the first cloud-based Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for web and mobile apps, today announced that it has raised $5.5 million in a series A funding from Accel Partners and Atlassian Software. The company will employ the funds to consolidate its leadership in the emerging cloud-based Development as a Service (DaaS) segment of the $8B application development market.

Cloud9 has already met several important milestones through self-funding and previous angel investments. The new funds will accelerate support for multiple languages, platforms, and cloud/mobile SDKs. To reach the ambitious development goals, the company will expand its Amsterdam development team and open a new US headquarters in San Francisco.

"We are delighted to conclude this new funding round, and we are especially grateful to have Atlassian's participation -- as a leading developer of collaboration tools, they understand our vision," said Ruben Daniels, Cloud9 IDE CEO. "We can now execute our ambitious roadmap for Cloud9 development, including language analysis, the creation of Google docs-style multi-user collaboration, and the delivery of integrated services in various programming languages."

"After investing in popular consumer-facing web and mobile platforms, including Facebook and Groupon, we saw the need for new development infrastructures that will continue to drive these trends," said Ping Li, Partner of Accel Partners. "We were delighted to have the opportunity to team up with Cloud9 to deliver their Development as a Service vision."

"We're incredibly excited to be an investor in Cloud9," said Scott Farquhar, Atlassian CEO and co-founder. "Development in the cloud is a trend that is growing quickly, and Cloud9 is in a unique position to provide web application developers with one-stop cloud development for web and mobile applications."

Cloud9 enables developers to easily start projects behind a single URL, share their code, and collaborate with co-developers all over the world without having to install anything on the client. Over 30,000 developers around the world are already using Cloud9 to build and collaborate on software projects.
