TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 13, 2011) - Cineplex Entertainment (TSX:CGX), via our Front Row Centre Events is pleased to present The Met: Live in HD Summer Encores. Four special performances of a previously enjoyed Met Opera will be broadcast in high-definition and 5.1 digital surround. Tosca is the first Summer Encores performance presented July 27th, followed by Turandot August 3rd, Don Pasquale August 10th and Don Carlo August 24th. All performances will be broadcast at 6:30 p.m. local time.

Tosca – Karita Mattila lives for art and love as the passionate title character of Puccini's opera. Luc Bondy's production co-stars Marcelo Álvarez as the painter and revolutionary Cavaradossi and George Gagnidze as the corrupt villain Scarpia. Joseph Colaneri conducts.
Wednesday, August 3, 6:30 p.m. local time
Turandot – Director Franco Zeffirelli's breathtaking production of Puccini's last opera is a favorite of the Met repertoire. Maria Guleghina plays the ruthless Chinese princess of the title, whose hatred of men is so strong that she has all suitors who can't solve her riddles beheaded. Marcello Giordani sings Calàf, the unknown prince who eventually wins her love and whose solos include the famous "Nessun dorma."

Don Pasquale – Soprano Anna Netrebko is Norina, the irresistible and clever romantic heroine of Donizetti's comic opera, who conspires with Dr. Malatesta (Mariusz Kwiecien) to teach a middle-aged miser (John Del Carlo) an unforgettable lesson about love and marriage. Matthew Polenzani sings the role of Ernesto, Norina's love, and James Levine conducts one of his first-ever performances of this opera.
Wednesday, August 24, 6:30 p.m. local time
Don Carlo – Tony Award-winning director Nicholas Hytner made his Met debut with this new production of Verdi's monumental grand opera. Roberto Alagna is the conflicted title character, joined by an exceptional cast that includes Marina Poplavskaya as Elisabeth de Valois, Anna Smirnova as Princess Eboli, Simon Keenlyside as Rodrigo, and Ferruccio Furlanetto as King Philip II. Montreal native Yannick Nézet-Séguin, conducts.
