ATLANTA, July 15, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta) announced today that Sharon Cook has been promoted to vice president and director of corporate communications.

In her new role, Cook will serve in a cross-functional capacity leading communications strategies and programs to support FHLBank Atlanta's primary business initiatives and key priorities. Cook joined FHLBank Atlanta in March of 2008 as the senior marketing communications manager. She will oversee marketing, public and media relations, shareholder relations, and stakeholder communications.

"Sharon has been instrumental in communicating our services to our stakeholders, including community and economic development organizations, government and regulatory officials, employees, and our thousand plus member financial institutions," said Robert Dozier, FHLBank Atlanta's executive vice president and chief business officer. "Her background in financial communications and tenure with the Bank will help us to broaden our marketing and communications initiatives."

Prior to joining FHLBank Atlanta, Cook served as vice president of marketing services for the CDC Federal Credit Union in Atlanta. She began her career in marketing at Lockheed Georgia Employees' Federal Credit Union in Marietta, Ga.

Cook earned a bachelor of arts in public relations with a minor in marketing from Georgia State University, and a master of business administration in leadership development from Brenau University. She also serves on the marketing committee for the Partnership Against Domestic Violence in Atlanta, and the communications committee for the National Housing Conference in Washington, DC.
