Will County 911 Backhauls Crucial Dispatch Information With Exalt

Illinois Public Safety Agency Relies on Exalt Microwave to Transport 911 Voice and Data Traffic

CAMPBELL, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 26, 2011) - Exalt Communications today announced that Will County 911 in Illinois has deployed Exalt microwave backhaul systems to connect its new dispatch center (Public Safety Answering Point - PSAP) in Bolingbrook, Illinois with a regional switching center approximately 13 miles away. Bolingbrook PSAP dispatches emergency police and fire calls supporting the community's 73,000 residents.

Reliability was the primary reason Will County 911 and Bolingbrook PSAP chose the Exalt systems. The public safety agency uses Exalt microwave backhaul systems to connect its dispatch center with a remote switching center in Laraway, Will County through four microwave links located on water towers and traditional communications towers. The links have never failed despite temperature extremes from below freezing to as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

"With 911 voice and data traffic that can involve life-and-death situations, we need a communications system that we can rely on no matter what," said Tom Ross, deputy chief at Bolingbrook Police Department. "The Exalt systems have been totally reliable and give us greater peace of mind and lower costs over time than leased lines."

Exalt partner Digital Sky of Homer Glen, Illinois deployed the links for Bolingbrook PSAP. As configured for Bolingbrook PSAP, the Exalt 4.9 GHz and 6 GHz microwave backhaul systems carry two T1 lines that transport mission critical two-way radio traffic for first responders. The systems use the 4.9 GHz public safety frequency band for interference protection and reliability and the 6 GHz frequency band for even higher capacity to support additional simulcast trunking sites for Will County's 800 MHz radio system.

The Exalt Microwave Backhaul Product Portfolio
All Exalt microwave backhaul systems -- indoor, outdoor, and split-mount -- offer guaranteed link availability, guaranteed throughput and low, constant latency. Systems are available in world bands from 2 to 43 GHz and in capacities from 10 Mbps to more than 1000 Mbps per channel, providing a range of options to fit countless network applications. Designed to enable a smooth transition to IP, they offer native support for both TDM and Ethernet, and are fully software configurable and upgradeable. For easy and secure management using third-party network management systems, Exalt systems support SNMP v1, v2c and v3. Data security is provided by available FIPS 197-compliant AES 128-bit and 256-bit encryption that adds zero latency to the transmission. To simplify installation and maintenance, all Exalt systems feature an embedded manual and most include a built-in spectrum analyzer.
