SoundBite Communications Earns Level 1 PCI DSS Certification in Europe

Certification Demonstrates SoundBite's Proactive Commitment to Information Security

BEDFORD, Mass., July 28, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SoundBite Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:SDBT) today announced that it has extended its certification as a Level 1 service provider, compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), to include its London-area datacenter and UK-based operations. With PCI DSS certification in Europe, SoundBite provides fully-secure services to European partners and clients in financial services, telecommunications, retail, utilities and other industries. Level 1 service providers undergo the highest level of scrutiny available for PCI-compliant organizations.

"Enterprises worldwide are updating their communications strategies to capitalize on the benefits of multi-channel communications. As our international clients' communications needs evolve, SoundBite is able to support these important shifts," said Jay Reilly, vice president of global services at SoundBite. "Level 1 PCI DSS certification allows SoundBite's UK-based staff and data center to better serve our European clients and partners as they can feel confident that their cardholders' sensitive information is secure."

To meet the growing demand for its proactive customer communications solutions in Europe, SoundBite expanded its global presence in 2010 by establishing a wholly-owned subsidiary in the UK. The company's multi-channel communications platform, SoundBite Engage™, supports global clients, and the company has an active reseller partner program in Europe.

SoundBite: Committed to the Security of Client Information

SoundBite's PCI DSS Level 1 certification in Europe further illustrates the company's commitment to information security and solidifies its reputation as an industry leader. PCI DSS is the industry standard for merchants and service providers that store, process, or transmit cardholder data. Organizations that outsource the processing of cardholder information, including financial institutions, credit card issuers, retailers and others for which security is a priority, require that their service providers undergo the rigorous PCI certification process. SoundBite has also achieved Level 1 certification for three consecutive years in the U.S.

In addition to its annual PCI certification, SoundBite routinely submits to external audits of its policies, controls and processes on behalf of its clients.  Each year, SoundBite participates in dozens of external security audits led by financial institutions, retailers, insurance, healthcare, telecommunications and utility providers.  It also received an unqualified opinion in a Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70) Type II auditor's report.  SAS 70 Type II auditor's report is based on an in-depth audit of internal and external control activities.  This annual report helps assure clients that SoundBite has practices in place to protect client data.  Specifically, a Type II report contains an opinion on the effectiveness of the controls in providing assurance that control objectives were met.
