In August 2011, Finnair traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres rose by 11.1% as the overall capacity grew by 13.3% compared with August 2010. Finnair’s Asian traffic capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometres grew by 28.7% and traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres increased by 20.3%.
“In August, leisure travel continued at a high level, which improved passenger load factors in intra-European and leisure traffic. Holiday travellers also improved the load factors on North American flights. In Asian traffic, passenger load factors decreased due to lower-than-average business travel demand. Travel demand from Japan to Europe has almost returned to its earlier levels, and load factors are good on our routes to Japan. Travel demand from Europe to Japan, however, is recovering at a clearly lower pace,” says Finnair CFO Erno Hildén.
The capacity change in Finnair’s leisure traffic results from the fact that from the beginning of the summer season, some of the previous leisure flights have been operated as scheduled services. A corresponding traffic change can be seen as growth in the European and North American figures.
Cargo capacity grew by 27.8% and traffic by revenue tonne kilometres grew by 18.3% compared with August 2010.
In August, the arrival punctuality of Finnair flights returned to the last year’s level: 90.4% (90.1%) of all flights arrived on schedule. In scheduled traffic the arrival punctuality was 90.8% (90.8%).
