Government of Canada Grants $752,400 to Fromagerie Perron

SAINT-PRIME, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 16, 2011) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that Fromagerie Perron has been granted $752,400 in repayable funding to modernize its factory and improve productivity.

"The Government of Canada has chosen to support this Fromagerie Perron project because of the important contribution it promises to make to the vitality of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean dairy production and processing industry," said Minister Lebel.

The project consists mainly of the acquisition of high-performance specialized equipment and the reconfiguration of the company's production chains. Work to improve the factory's energy efficiency is also planned. Quebec's oldest cheese producer, Fromagerie Perron is a major employer in the Regional County Municipality (RCM) of Domaine-du-Roy. The enterprise purchases some 18 million litres of milk per year for the production of more than two million kilograms of cheese.

This financial assistance has been awarded through Canada Economic Development's Business and Regional Growth program.
