Tate(R) Offsets 100 Percent of Electricity Consumed at Red Lion, Pa., Facility With Wind-Generated Renewable Energy

Purchase of Renewable Energy Credits Underscores Company's Commitment to Sustainability

JESSUP, MD--(Marketwire - Sep 28, 2011) - Tate®, a market leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of raised access flooring and in-floor cooling solutions, announced it has purchased more than 11.6 million kilowatt hours of wind-generated renewable energy credits (RECs). These Green-e Energy-certified credits will offset 100 percent of the electricity the company consumes at its Red Lion, Pa., manufacturing facility.

RECs are an essential mechanism to voluntarily offset emissions from the generation of electricity. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the renewable credits purchased by Tate have the same impact as removing 1,575 passenger cars from the road annually or eliminating emissions from electricity used by 1,002 homes each year.

"Tate makes it a priority to continually search for improvements that will reduce its environmental footprint, while maintaining an ability to deliver superior products and services to customers," said Scott Alwine, LEED AP, marketing manager at Tate. "The decision to purchase renewable energy credits underscores our commitment to responsible, sustainable business practices and strengthens Tate's ongoing efforts to lessen the environmental impact of our manufacturing process. At the same time, the investment in renewable energy complements the contribution that Tate products make to green building solutions and high-performance, sustainable and cost-effective indoor environments."

Purchasing RECs is a widely accepted way to address the environmental footprint of a company's electricity consumption. Purchasing them in a quantity equivalent to the amount of electricity consumed by the Red Lion facility guarantees that all of the electricity used by the Tate plant is added to the power grid from a renewable energy facility -- in this case Renewable Choice Energy -- and supports the further development of renewable energy and carbon reduction technologies.
