SAN DIEGO, Oct. 10, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, announced today that its subsidiary, Gichner Systems Group, in partnership with Mainstream Engineering, has been awarded a sole-source contract to provide both the U.S. Army and Air Force with the next-generation, multi-functional Tricon Refrigerated Container System (TRCS). Work will be performed at Gichner's Charleston Marine Containers Inc. (CMCI) facility in Charleston, SC.
With a potential value to Gichner of over $8 million, the multi-year contract calls for the delivery of specialized and insulated Tricon products (both Army and Air Force versions) equipped with Mainstream's new high-performance/energy-efficient Modular Refrigeration Units (MRUs). The TRCS contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) Contracting Center, Natick Contracting Division.
The new military requirements for the TRCS—which operates as an expeditionary field refrigerator, providing safe storage and temperature control for perishable items—address a variety of capabilities such as energy efficiency, performance, maintenance and durability. Units delivered through the contract meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency/U.S. Department of Energy ENERGY STAR rating requirements.
