Media Advisory/REMINDER: Union Retirees to Meet at Port Elgin

Home care policy major focus of convention


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 11, 2011) - The Congress of Union Retirees (CURC) will hold its biannual convention at the Canadian Auto Workers Family Education Centre in Port Elgin, Ontario, October 12–14. CURC spokespersons will be available for comment to the media.

The major focus of this year's convention will be home care policy, which will be the subject of an opening panel on Wednesday, October 12 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The panel will be streamed live in both English and French on CURC's web sites: http://unionretiree.ca and http://syndicalistesalaretraite.ca

On October 13, CURC delegates will examine in depth a number of extensive policy papers on home care. These documents along with agenda and resolutions can be found on the websites mentioned above.

Guest speakers to the convention include Canadian Labour Congress Secretary-Treasurer Hassan Yussuff, and Irene Mathyssen, NDP critic for seniors, who is the banquet speaker at 7:00 p.m. on October 13.

The Congress of Union Retirees brings together the representatives of over 500,000 retirees across Canada.
