COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Oct. 12, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Please join representatives of Springs Rescue Mission, American Bank of Commerce (ABC Bank), and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) as they kickoff the renovations of a vacant liquor store for a new transitional living dormitory for homeless men in the Springs Rescue Mission's New Life Program.
The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. MDT on Thursday, October 13, 2011, with the removal of an old sign in front of the vacant liquor store. The demonstration will mark a symbolic beginning to the renovations in that drugs and alcohol are often the catalysts that bring men to Springs Rescue Mission for recovery. The vacant building will be renovated to include 44 units, virtually doubling the housing space Springs Rescue Mission currently accommodates.
A ceremony following the demonstration will include a check presentation by FHLB Dallas and ABC Bank in honor of the $500,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant awarded to Springs Rescue Mission. The AHP grant was announced in August 2011 and will be used along with other funding sources toward the acquisition and renovation of the existing building. AHP grants are awarded by FHLB Dallas member institutions, such as ABC Bank, to assist in the development of affordable owner-occupied and rental housing for very low- to moderate-income households.
