Correctional Service of Canada: Lockdown and Search at Drumheller Institution


DRUMHELLER, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 19, 2011) - At approximately 5:30 p.m. on November 18, 2011, Drumheller Institution was placed on lockdown following an assault against an inmate and to facilitate a search of the institution. The inmate was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, was treated and has been returned to the institution.

The search is being conducted to ensure the ongoing safety and security of the institution, its staff and the inmates. The institution will return to normal routine when institutional management determines it is safe to do so.

Regularly scheduled visits to the institution are affected. Visits will be suspended until the search has been completed.

In order to improve its practices to prevent and reduce future incidents, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will continue to work in an effort to review the circumstances surrounding the incident and take action where necessary.
