MAUI, HI--(Marketwire - Nov 23, 2011) - Trees, ziplines and fund-raising are making headlines in Maui, all pulling together for a better world, one zip or tree at a time. And thanks to the volunteer efforts of dedicated local residents like associates at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort and Spa, one of the premier Maui, Hawaii resorts, the efforts are making a difference in the lives of many.

Stepping up to participate in a series of eco-focused activities built to help local organizations while adding native trees to the island's eco-system, Wailea Beach Marriott staff added the activities as part of their Day Five of Spirit to Serve during Marriott's Global Customer Appreciation Week and secured a benefit for Hui Malama Learning Center. This organization was one of six local non-profits that benefited from the Skyline Eco Adventures goal to aid six island organizations over a period of six days. Scott Obley, Director of Group Sales at Wailea Beach Marriott serves on the Board of Directors for the Learning Center and recognized an opportunity for community involvement that would benefit many.

Joining forces with Skyline Eco Adventures, sponsors of the Plant A Wish program, Marriott associates were among the many volunteers, including students from the Hui Malama Learning Center, who turned out to plant 1,000 trees to restore the native forests on the slopes of Haleakala in celebration of Arbor Day and as the final plant of the nationwide tree planting tour. Prior to the Arbor Day plant Skyline Eco-Adventures donated all proceeds from October 30, 2011 zipline tours to Hui Malama.

Hui Malama Learning Center offers middle school, high school and GED prep classes, as well as tutoring and educational enrichment programs to youth on Maui. Study programs are designed to inspire, nurture and empower students to pursue career opportunities that contribute to local neighborhoods and bolster the islands' economy, while preparing them to be responsible leaders within the community.

Plant A Wish is a native tree planting project founded in Hawaii that has brought local communities together for native tree planting ceremonies in all 50 states since its inception in 2010. Each planting event is unique because community members are invited to write down their wishes, prayers and hopes onto scraps of paper which are planted under each tree. Those trees are marked with GPS and looked after in perpetuity by caretakers, neighbors and the Plant A Wish team.

Marriott associates from the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa who participated in the community project rely heavily on the natural beauty of the island for their livelihood, working daily to provide guests with spectacular oceanfront accommodations through impressive Maui hotel packages, exceptional service and fine Maui dining.
