Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort: Snow Is Falling; Mini-Terrain Park Opens

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 23, 2011) - Snow, and lots of it, is covering Sunshine Village this week, allowing the popular ski and snowboard resort to open its mini-terrain park.

Fully 20 centimetres of fresh powder fell over the past 24 hours. And snow-forecast.com is calling for 24 cm more by Friday. That makes for a banner start to the year, with the base sitting at 75 cm on Tuesday and growing constantly.

After some testing Tuesday, the mini-park officially opens this morning (Wednesday).

This year the mini-park is on Strawberry which, Senior Slope Supervisor Adam Towers says is good news.

"Snowsnake will give beginners a better chance to try out the park. Before it was typically only accessible by blue and black runs," he said.

Some of the features that will be open: One 10-foot downrail; one 16-foot flatbox; one 24-foot downbox; flat downbox; two rainbows; two mailboxes; and MFM box. More features are expected to be added for the park, which should be around until at least January.

"It's awesome on Strawberry; right underneath the lift-line, with really fast laps and you can see it right from the Village," said Dean Hartlin, Terrain Park Groomer.

Hartlin says the mid-week snowfall is, "Great news, gives me a lot more to push around!"
