DGAP-News: SolarWorld AG / Key word(s): Miscellaneous SolarWorld delivers milestone projects worldwide 25.11.2011 / 11:05 --------------------------------------------------------------------- November 25, 2011 Corporate News SolarWorld AG (Securities Code No.: WKN 510 840) (International Securities Identification Number: ISIN DE0005108401) SolarWorld delivers milestone projects worldwide Quality modules provide clean electricity in South Africa, Greece, India and the US Before the world climate summit in Durban/South Africa from November 28 to December 9, 2011, SolarWorld AG in Bonn is drawing attention to the global importance of solar power with milestone projects in four continents. Coinciding with the start of the summit in Durban, the largest roof-top plant in Africa equipped with SolarWorld quality modules will start generating electricity. In the United States, the largest solar power system in a private school with an output of 2 megawatts was inaugurated. In Greece, SolarWorld set the standards for a solar future with two megawatts projects, while in the Indian federal state of Gujarat, SolarWorld supplied 10.6 megawatts worth of solar power modules for clean electricity generation. 'Worldwide, solar power is the key to climate-friendly energy generation. The cost reductions of the last few years make it possible in the industrialized countries for power from the sun to compete with conventional electricity from finite and environmentally damaging energy sources. In the poorer regions of the world that have so far had no power grids at all, solar power enables people for the first time to have access to electricity and thus to information and education,' said SolarWorld Chairman and CEO Dr.-Ing. E. h. Frank Asbeck. The project of SolarWorld Africa in Durban is the largest roof-top installation in Africa. A solar power plant with an output of 600 kWp is being constructed on the roofs of the Agrizone-Dube-TradePort building. The power generated will be fed into the company's own grid and will be sufficient to supply electricity to the entire refrigerated warehouses, the greenhouses, the packaging plants as well as the offices of the Agrizone complex. In the first phase, one warehouse was equipped with SolarWorld modules. Feeding electricity into the grid will begin right on time before the start of the UN World Climate Summit COP17 in Durban on November 28, 2011. The second phase of the installation will be implemented after the building has been completed. In Massachusetts, the largest solar power plant of a private school in the U.S. will be equipped with SolarWorld modules. A 3.2 hectare free-field system with an output of 2 megawatts will start operations at Berkshire School, a private boarding school in Sheffield, before the end of November. The Berkshire School free-field system consists of 8,332 crystalline SolarWorld modules 'made in USA'. It is the most recent of three major SolarWorld projects in Massachusetts which, taken together, total an output of more than 7 megawatts. In central Greece, two solar farms were already connected to the grid in November: In Voiotia in the vicinity of the antique port of Domvrena, SolarWorld AG supplies modules to the projects 'Trepeza I' and 'Trepeza II' with a total output capacity of 4 megawatts. In September, another plant with 2 megawatts worth of polycrystalline SolarWorld modules had been connected to the grid. SolarWorld also supplied polycrystalline modules to a 10.6 megawatts free-field system in the Indian federal state of Gujarat. It is already the second large project for SolarWorld in India this year where renewable energies are continuing to gain in importance. Of the 1.2 billion inhabitants of India, more than 400,000 have no access to the national power grid. The SolarWorld quality modules are 'made in Germany' and 'made in USA' respectively and originate from the group's production sites in Freiberg in Saxony and in Hillsboro/Oregon. About SolarWorld AG: The SolarWorld AG Group (ISIN: DE0005108401) is a worldwide leader in offering brand-name, high quality, crystalline solar power technology.
