Beiersdorf resolves additional measures to implement its Consumer Business
Strategy 2015
The Executive Board of Beiersdorf Aktiengesellschaft today resolved
measures to strengthen the company's regional focus, based on its Consumer
Business Strategy 2015 ('Focus on Skin Care. Closer to Markets'); these
were approved by the Supervisory Board at its meeting today. The aim is to
simplify and optimize the company's structures and processes and align them
with a stronger role for the regions and clearly defined responsibilities
for the headquarters and affiliates.
From today's perspective, Beiersdorf is forecasting potential annual
savings of approximately EUR90 million starting in fiscal year
2014;
savings of approximately EUR25 million are already expected to be generated
in 2012 and of approximately EUR75 million in 2013. The company is
budgeting for a total extraordinary expense of approximately EUR265
million, the bulk of which will be incurred in 2011. This expense also
includes impairment losses of approximately EUR140 million on intangible
assets relating to the Chinese hair care business, due to the revision of
business structures in China. Up to 1,000 employees worldwide, including up
to 230 in Germany, may be affected by the measures.
The operating EBIT margin for the Beiersdorf Group as a whole and for the
Consumer business segment in fiscal 2011 will be unchanged in each case at
10-11%; the tesa business segment is not affected by the measures.
The measures are designed to improve the company's earnings power and
increase its competitive ability in the medium term.
