CMHC Reports November Housing Starts Up in Windsor


WINDSOR, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 8, 2011) - New home starts were up in November in the Windsor Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) according to preliminary data released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Builders laid foundations for 100 homes compared to 66 in November 2010.

"The increase in construction in the Windsor CMA in November was fairly evenly dispersed across the regions within the CMA. When comparing November 2011 and November 2010, starts were up in all of the areas of the CMA with the exception of Tecumseh, where the starts were unchanged," said Paul Tessaro, Market Analyst for CMHC.

November starts in the Windsor area included 51 single-detached homes, 24 semi-detached homes and 25 townhomes. Year-to-date, builders started 415 single-detached homes, 86 semi-detached homes, 130 townhomes and eight apartments in the Windsor CMA, up 16 per cent from the same time in 2010.
