Finnair has won two European Excellence Awards in communications for its Rethink Quality and Angry Birds projects. The fifth annual European Excellence Awards gala was held in Amsterdam to honour the most outstanding achievements of communications professionals in their field from across Europe.
Finnair’s Rethink Quality project of 2010, which sent four Quality Hunters around the world to search for new ideas to improve the air travel experience, won the prestigious award in the Travel and Tourism category. Finnair’s Angry Birds Asian Challenge, a tournament for fans of the popular mobile device game held onboard a flight from Helsinki to Singapore last September, won in the Event category. Finnair’s partner in both projects was the Helsinki-based firm Miltton.
“This is a very satisfying achievement for our team,” said Arja Suominen, SVP Communications and Corporate Responsibility. “There was a lot of very tough competition in both categories, but telling Finnair’s ongoing story of quality, creativity and freshness in air travel is our unique privilege.”
The Quality Hunters project was renewed and expanded for a second season in 2011. More mobile device game tournaments are planned for the future as well.
The European Excellence Awards are hosted by Communication Director, the Magazine for Corporate Communications and Public Relations in Europe. Communication Director is also a co-host of the European Communication Summit, the largest European gathering of communications professionals.
