Thrane & Thrane wins record order for maritime broadband solutions

New agreement for at least 290 maritime VSAT systems largest order to date in VSAT market

Thrane & Thrane has signed a ground-breaking agreement with a new VSAT partner for the delivery of at least 290 units of the type SAILOR 900 VSAT, the company's new Ku-band antenna for broadband communication via satellite. The majority of the agreement, which has a value of at least DKK 60 million, will ship over the next 12 months.

To Thrane & Thrane, the agreement represents a technological and commercial breakthrough in the maritime VSAT market, which the company now seriously commits to. Thus, the newly developed SAILOR 900 VSAT sets new standards for communication at sea, offering a number of innovative features and applications.

"Our strong technology platform gives us a considerable competitive edge in terms of reliability, quality and functionality – factors which are crucial to users and purchasers of our products alike. That has made us market leaders in our other market segments, and that is something we intend to exploit to increase our share of the VSAT market to a significant level over the next few years. Therefore, this order marks an important step for us," said Walther Thygesen, CEO of Thrane & Thrane.

VSAT systems on the market till now have been complex to install and operate. Furthermore, many different satellite operators provide broadband connections based on Ku-band. This has to some extent limited the deployment of VSAT because of the great demands made on the interaction between modem, network and the VSAT antenna.

The innovative technology of Thrane & Thrane's SAILOR 900 VSAT solves several of these problems. The system dispenses with troublesome and time-consuming testing, balancing and configuration of satellite antennas on board vessels, as Thrane & Thrane performs such necessary processes prior to delivery. That makes the system fast and simple to install, and also more reliable. In addition, the SAILOR 900 VSAT is compatible with all Ku-band satellite systems globally.

The agreement will have no impact on Thrane & Thrane's previously announced expectations to revenue and operating profit for the financial year ending April 30, 2012.
