NAAMA Announces 2012 Board of Directors and NAAMA Foundation Board of Trustees


BIRMINGHAM, Mich., Dec. 28, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) announces the results of the 2012 election of officers and board members and for the NAAMA Foundation board of trustees, effective January 1, 2012:

  • President: Aziz Shaibani, MD, of Houston, TX, clinical associate professor of medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, neuromuscular specialist
  • President-Elect: Elie Azrak, MD, of St. Louis, MO, cardiologist with St. Louis Cardiology
  • Vice President: Terry Meriden, MD, of Peoria, IL, endocrinologist in private practice
  • Executive Secretary: Rezik Saqer, MD, of Houston, TX, anesthesiology and interventional pain management, Texas Pain Solutions
  • Chief Financial Officer: Marwan Refaat, MD, of San Francisco, CA, a cardiac electrophysiologist
  • Board Members: Mae Sheikh-Ali, MD, of Jacksonville, FL, assistant professor of medicine at the University of Florida in Jacksonville; Bassam Hadaya, MD, of Palmdale, CA, a nephrologist with Dialysis Center in the Antelope Valley, CA; George Zureikat, MD, of Grand Blanc, MI, Medical Director of Mid Michigan Sleep Center and the Inpatient Pediatric Medical Director at Genesys Regional Medical Center; and Wassim Younes, MD, of Dearborn, MI, an internal medicine and geriatrics training specialist in private practice, who will complete the term of Dr. Meriden who was elected vice president.

They join immediate past president, Mouhanad Hammami, MD, of Livonia, MI, chief health operations office for Wayne County, MI; and board members: Haifa Azawi, MD, of Paramount, CA, obstetrician and gynecologist; Nicola Hanania, MD, of Sugar Land, TX, associate professor of medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, pulmonary disease specialist; Foundation Chair Hareth Raddawi, MD, of Oak Brook, IL, gastroenterologist; Mazin Sabri, MD, of Anaheim, CA, orthopedic surgeon; and Bachar Hachwa, MD, of Dublin, OH, an anesthesiologist, who will complete the term of Dr. Hoda Makkawi who resigned from the board.

Elected to serve on the NAAMA Foundation Board of Trustees are: Hareth Raddawi, MD, and Edward (Ted) Yaghmour, MD, of Chicago, IL, anesthesiologist. They join trustees: Bashar Kashlan, MD, of Chicago, IL, anatomic and clinical pathologist; Rodwan Rajjoub, MD, of Williamsport, PA, neurosurgeon; Suad Shuber, MD, of Chicago, IL, obstetrician and gynecologist; and Foundation Secretary/Treasurer Elias Tawil, MD, of Pittsburg, KS, urologist.
