Best Year Ever for Volkswagen Canada

AJAX, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 3, 2012) - A year of strong results defined 2011 for Volkswagen Canada. December sales of 3,565 cars pushed the full year total to 52,604. This represents a new all-time high for the company, and eclipses the previous record set in 2010 by 16 percent.

"The combination of well-built, well-priced cars and an excellent Dealer network has driven our results," stated John White, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group Canada. "The solid launch of the all-new Passat has given us a strong player in the mid-size sedan market. It adds nicely to our product portfolio and compliments our other volume sellers, the Jetta, Golf and Tiguan."

December's figures were led by the Jetta, which posted sales of 1,607 during the month. Year-to-date, a total of 26,749 were sold. This made 2011 the most successful year ever for the car, which was introduced to Canadian drivers in 1980.

The 2012 Passat was completely redesigned for the Canadian market, and now offers significantly increased interior room despite sporting a price tag lowered by thousands of dollars from its predecessor. Total Passat sales for December were 373, representing an 87 percent increase over the same month last year. The recently-named Motor Trend Car of the Year is now available from $23,975. The Passat offers a choice of three engines, including the award-winning TDI Clean Diesel.
