VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 3, 2012) - The new year has a fortunate beginning for Dr. Joerg Michels, who won a $1 million MAXMILLION prize on the December 30th LOTTO MAX draw.
"The funny thing is, my wife had seen a fortune teller a couple of months ago who told her there would be some money coming in," said Michels, an Oncologist at the B.C. Cancer Agency. "I just had a hunch I should check this ticket."
When he saw the amount he couldn't believe it.
"That's a lot of zeros."
Plans for the winnings include paying off the mortgage, saving for the children's education, and taking the family on a trip to Germany. He also plans to share with friends, and to make a large charitable donation. "I want to remain humble - I don't need shiny cars," he said.
Michels purchased the winning ticket at the Chevron gas station on Gordon Head Road.
LOTTO MAX can be played at all lottery retail locations and at www.PlayNow.com, with tickets available for sale until 6:00 p.m. (PDT) on draw day (Friday). Winning numbers can be found online at www.bclc.com following each draw.
