TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 10, 2012) - Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) released preliminary fourth quarter 2011 new home construction figures for the Barrie Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) today. Builders started 91 homes in the most recent quarter, down from the 263 starts in the fourth quarter of 2010. Single-detached homes and row houses represented all of new construction. No apartment or semi-detached starts occurred this quarter.
"Total starts in the fourth quarter are down from a year ago," said CMHC's Market Analyst, Edgard Navarrete. "Decreased new construction across all types has brought the final tally lower. However, starts for the whole year are slightly up compared to last year mainly due to strong apartment starts during the first half of 2011."
