Convictions Under the Fisheries Act, Gaspe and Lower St. Lawrence


QUÉBEC CITY, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 19, 2012) - Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, has released a list of Gaspé and Lower St. Lawrence fishers fined in December 2011 for violations of the Fisheries Act.

The fines imposed on the offenders total $9,550. The offenders are:

Possession of Atlantic Halibut under the minimum size and possession of Atlantic Halibut nets. $6,000
Nicol Desbois
(Sainte-Thérèse-de-Gaspé)
Exceeding the daily quota for herring in 2009. $1,550
Stéphane Desbois
(Sainte-Thérèse-de-Gaspé)
Fishing from a vessel not named in the licence. $500
Elphège Lelièvre
(Sainte-Thérèse-de-Gaspé)
Non-compliance with snow crab licence conditions. $500
