Mothers on Maternity Launch Significant Proposed Class Action Against Government of Canada

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 20, 2012) - Today, the law firm Cavalluzzo Hayes Shilton McIntyre & Cornish LLP, together with its clients Jennifer McCrea and Carissa Kasbohm, have launched a proposed class action in the Federal Court against the Government of Canada.

The claim seeks damages of $450 million on behalf of mothers who became ill or injured when on parental leave since March 2002. The claim asserts that the Government officials failed to implement and actively defeated its own amendment to the Employment Insurance Act which should have allowed these women to claim Employment Insurance sickness benefits.
