International Hotel in Luwan Takes Home Multiple Awards From FHC International Culinary Arts Competition

Shanghai Marriott Hotel Luwan Chefs Earn Medals in Buffet Display and Live Cooking Competitions

SHANGHAI, CHINA--(Marketwire - Jan 23, 2012) - If you want to know what's cooking at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Luwan, you have to look beyond its restaurants in the Shanghai Luwan district and into the world of culinary competition, where its chefs are sending others to the chopping block.

This past November, three chefs from the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Luwan, an international hotel in Shanghai, entered the 14th annual FHC International Culinary Arts Competition -- and all three walked away with medals. The international food, drink, hospitality and foodservice exhibition, held November 16th through the 18th at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, staged various competitions, including culinary arts and live cooking.

Jenny Wang, pastry chef de partie at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Luwan, a Luwan district hotel, won the gold medal for her sugar buffet display, featuring a native peony flower. In the individual live cooking competitions, Alex Chu, Western chef de partie, won a silver medal for his pan-seared salmon in saffron clam sauce, and Marco Tang, Western chef de partie, won a bronze medal for his Canadian beef tenderloin with porcini potato and winter herb jus.

The three wins at the FHC International Culinary Arts Competition were an appetizer to the Asian Pastry Cup competition, held December 7, 2011, where John Qi, executive pastry chef at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel Luwan, a hotel in Shanghai Luwan, qualified for the national Chinese culinary team for the second year in a row with his gold medal-win. Chef Qi will represent China at the World Showpiece Competition in Singapore in April 2012.
