RIVERSIDE, IL--(Marketwire - Jan 23, 2012) - Riverside Police Department announced it has upgraded its Nixle service to the new free public notification service, Nixle Connect, to deliver important and timely information to residents. With no cost to the department, taxpayers, or residents, the new Nixle Connect is a cost-effective solution for public safety agencies throughout the country.

A user of Nixle since 2008, the Riverside Police is now using the upgraded Nixle Connect service, which launched this past summer, to communicate with the public via text/SMS, e-mail, and Internet posts at no cost. Communications range from emergency alerts to routine day-to-day information including traffic and missing persons reports, safety tips, crime information, community outreach programs and other public safety information.

"We are delighted to be using the new Nixle Connect as a vital tool in our efforts to keep the community informed," commented Thomas Weitzel, Chief of Police. "Our implementation of Nixle's free service is another example of our commitment to providing the highest quality police service. We are proud to use cutting-edge technology and maximize our efficiency on a limited budget by using Nixle."

Citizens can register to receive messages from Riverside PD and other local agencies by sending a text message with their zip code to 888777. Online registration is also available at www.nixle.com.
