CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Jan. 26, 2012) - World Health is encouraging Albertans to get in shape this January with the 2012 Winter Weight Loss Challenge and a reward of $10,000.

"One of the most important things to think about in regards to weight loss, healthy living is lifestyle. If you are looking for a quick fix solution, you may see quick results, but they won't last. If you can incorporate exercise along with proper nutrition into your lifestyle, you will see long lasting results. You will see noticeable results in 12 weeks, but remember to ask yourself if you can continue to workout and eat the way you are for the rest of your life," said Scott Wildeman, Senior Vice President of Operations, World Health.

The Winter Weight Loss Challenge is open to anyone within 100km from one of the 17 World Health locations in Calgary and Edmonton. No purchase is necessary and participants do not need to be a member at World Health.

The Challenge begins the day a participant signs up, and lasts 12 weeks from that day. The goal is for participants to lose as much weight as possible, while learning the skills needed to maintain a healthy weight for the rest of their lives. Twenty finalists will be selected based on their weight loss with the top 10 winning a prize, including the grand prize of $10,000.

"My quality of life has been changed dramatically; when I came from the hospital, I was in a wheelchair and 8 months later, I was able to run 5 km," said Chrissy Craig, winner of the 2011 Winter Weight Loss Challenge. "The hardest part is to get rid of the excuses and start a fitness routine. Remember that you are the most important person in your life and that you can't take care of anyone else if you don't take care of yourself first. Make the time for you and everyone in your life will benefit."

Ongoing support is offered to all participants through weekly workouts and weigh-ins at each location (link to, and an online forum.

To register for the Winter Weight Loss Challenge and a chance to win $10,000, visit any World Health location (link to before January 31, 2012.
