Seizure of Unauthorized Substance at Donnacona Institution


DONNACONA, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 26, 2012) - On January 23, 2012, as a result of the vigilance of correctional staff, two inmates were intercepted while attempting to introduce tobacco into Donnacona Institution, a maximum-security federal penitentiary located in Donnacona. The inmates were returning from the court.

Upon inspection, a total of 657 grams of tobacco was seized. The estimated institutional value of the seizure is $11,850.

CSC imposed a total smoking ban in all federal correctional facilities through a phased-approach on May 5, 2008.

CSC is strengthening measures to prevent unauthorized substance from entering institutions, in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
