Lubrizol Launches Pre-Colored Isoplast® TPU Resins
White Color Offering Significantly Reduces Process Variability in Non-Implantable Applications
CLEVELAND, February 14, 2012 - The Lubrizol Corporation announces the availability of several grades of pre-colored Isoplast® thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) resin for their medical customers. Isoplast TPU resins were previously only available in natural but are now offered in white for non-implantable applications. The company will launch the product at the 2012 Medical Design & Manufacturing show in Anaheim, CA, February 14-16.
This new offering is part of Lubrizol's continuing effort to deliver new products and technologies that more precisely meet processing and end-use requirements and provide better consistency to customers. As Deb Langer, general manager- life science polymers, explains, adding color during polymerization eliminates an additional heat history and diminishes variability. This helps to reduce scrap, eliminate defects and offer more consistent batch-to-batch melt indexes. Compounds created with Lubrizol's base Isoplast TPU resin use not only colorants but a wide range of additives to enhance performance in similar markets." Lubrizol is also working with customers to evaluate additional colors for Isoplast for use in key markets."
Isoplast TPUs are highly engineered rigid plastics that combine the toughness and dimensional stability of amorphous resins with the superior performance and chemical resistance associated with semi-crystalline resins. Isoplast TPU is available in impact-modified, clear and glass-reinforced resins, offering a range of options to meet the most demanding injection molding applications.
