A Second Component of the U.S. Government's Department of Homeland Security Initiates Usage of Route1's Remote Access Solution

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 16, 2012) - Route1 Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ROI) a security and identity management company, today announced that a second component of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is now using its remote access solution.

The second component of the DHS has commenced a pilot. The identity management platform to be used by the pilot group of users is the DEFIMNET accredited by DHS in October 2011. Upon successful pilot completion, Route1 expects that it would build a DEFIMNET for the new user group that would be located at a DHS operations center. The new component has approximately 20,000 employees.

Usage by this new component of DHS is in part being driven by the MobiKEY Fusion device, which will allow the DHS component to be in compliance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) when accessing U.S. Government digital resources remotely. The MobiKEY Fusion is an identity validation device that supports a PIV card. This multi-factor authentication device combines physical possession of the MobiKEY device and an identity card, with computer and network access. Users can only access systems with a combination of their MobiKEY Fusion device, identity or access card and secret password or PIN.

"Today's announcement marks the next step in our relationship with the Department of Homeland Security. Identity management and data security are issues DHS is working to address and Route1 has the tools to help them meet their objectives," said Tony Busseri, CEO of Route1.

HSPD-12 created a common identification standard that ensures that people are who they say they are, so government facilities and sensitive information stored in networks remain protected.

Since 2007, Route1 has been providing its remote access solution to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), another component of DHS, with a priority mission of keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S. CBP also has a responsibility for securing and facilitating trade and travel while enforcing hundreds of U.S. regulations, including immigration and drug laws. DHS as a whole is made up of more than 200,000 employees across 23 agencies, advisory groups and components.

In October 2011, Route1 announced that its DEFIMNET had received an Authority to Operate (ATO) from the DHS. With that ATO, Route1 is able to provide its highly secure remote access and identity management solution to employees and contractors of DHS. The Route1 DEFIMNET is an identity and entitlement management platform originally developed to support the requirements of the military defense users, but also able to operate within all levels of classified and unclassified networks.
