Granite Hill Estates to Welcome Quilter, Maxine Sait

Former Old Orchard Beach Resident to Appear on March 29, Exhibit Through April

HALLOWELL, ME--(Marketwire - Mar 7, 2012) - Granite Hill Estates (GHE), the Kennebec Valley's premiere continuing care retirement community, welcomes Hallowell-based quilter, Maxine Sait, as part of its ongoing Art for Life series. Maxine's work is exhibited in the lobby of the Maine Lodge, and she will appear in a Meet the Artist session on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at 4:00 p.m.

"It's hard to imagine one person being so prolific," said Kathy Jorgensen, Granite Hill's executive director. "Counting full-size quilts and wall hangings, Maxine has produced more than 20 pieces of work, many of which are on display here. Given her energy, which is as bountiful as her work, maybe that shouldn't be surprising."

Maxine was born in Dixfield, Maine. She graduated from Westbrook Junior College in Portland and went to work at a doctor's office. When her mother passed away, she returned to Dixfield and worked at the Diamond Match Company. She married in 1945, moved to Old Orchard Beach, and finally settled in Saco, staying until moving to Granite Hill Estates in 2007.

She made her first quilt in 1980, then took a class in quilting in Sanford and joined the Evergreen Quilt Group. In 1986 her "Rose of Sharon" shared Best of Show at the Evergreen Quilters exhibit. It was exhibited in the State show in 1987 and appeared in Quilting Today, issue #6, April-May 1988; in the Cape Porpoise show in 1987; and took Best of Show at the Huntington Commons in 1992.

To get to Granite Hill Estates, take exit 109 from the south or 109B from the north off I-95 (Winthrop). Head west on Route 202. Take a left onto Edison Drive. GHE is on the right.
