The Secrets to Unlocking Your Innovation Potential Is Subject of Author and Innovation Expert's Talk at TEDxSingapore

Scott D. Anthony, Author of "The Little Black Book of Innovation" and Head of Innosight Asia-Pacific, Says Innovation Is Everyone's Job… and Is in Your Grasp

SINGAPORE--(Marketwire - Apr 1, 2012) - Innovation is a crucial capability for organizations, governments and individuals. Yet, despite innovation's importance, it remains an elusive practice.

But it shouldn't. The world is full of innovation potential -- and it's within everyone's grasp, according to Scott D. Anthony, Managing Director and head of the Asia-Pacific operation of innovation consulting firm Innosight and author of The Little Black Book of Innovation: How It Works, How to Do It (Harvard Business Review Press, January 2012).

Mr. Anthony will discuss how innovation isn't just the job of the scientist -- it's everyone's job -- at a TEDxSingapore "Inspiring Ideas to the Max" talk tomorrow. He will highlight how companies and individuals can unleash their innovation potential. According to Mr. Anthony…

  • Innovation isn't just simply whiz-bang breakthroughs. It can be about simplification. "You don't have to be Steve Jobs to succeed at innovating. When companies and individuals fail at innovation, it's because the practical way to do it isn't clear. It's a systematic process, and by looking carefully at the business landscape of past successes and failures, there are clear patterns that one can -- and should -- follow," he says.

  • Innovation is a challenge, particularly in Singapore, and an opportunity for all. "The markets in Asia are fairly new and are evolving so rapidly that there hasn't been an opportunity to put robust systems in place. What works in these markets are simple, practical principles that can be applied quickly to generate results," Mr. Anthony says.

  • Innovation is within everyone's grasp. "The potential and ability to innovate live in all of us. Decades of academic research and work by leading companies point the way to innovation success. All that's needed is a clear, practical way to turn an insight or idea into action," he says.

  • Innovation isn't just a job for scientists. "In order to compete with the rapid pace of change in the global marketplace, companies and individuals can no longer put innovation into a silo, turning it into a rarified thing only a few can attain. Innovation isn't a job reserved a select few; it is achievable by -- and the responsibility of -- everyone," he says.

Mr. Anthony will be speaking at TEDxSingapore's "Inspiring Ideas to the Max" on Tuesday, April 3. Held at MAX Atria @ Singapore EXPO, the event will feature seven speakers presenting ideas and works on topics ranging from innovation to photography to architecture.

TEDxSingapore welcomes people from every discipline and culture who have two things in common: seeking a deeper understanding of the world and wanting to turn that understanding into a better future for us all. Our passion and purpose are to reach out and inspire people to learn, share and engage in close conversations about ideas and to share ideas from Singapore with the world through the global TED community. The curatorial team of TEDxSingapore includes many thinkers, doers and TEDsters (people who have attended TED Conferences). TEDxSingapore is 100% community created and operates under a non-commercial license from TED to independently organise TED-style idea events in Singapore. ABOUT TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small Group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

ABOUT TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world's leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Two major TED events are held each year: The TED Conference takes place every spring in Long Beach, California (along with a parallel conference, TEDActive, in Palm Springs), and TEDGlobal is held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.

TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily; the new TED Conversations, enabling broad conversations among TED fans; and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide.

TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
